Laparoscopic Surgery in Houston

Overview

Dr. Daisy Ayim has extensive experience when it comes to performing all gynecologic procedures such as hysterectomy, myomectomy, and adnexal surgeries with a camera through the naval area and small incision in the lower abdomen known as laparoscopy. These laparoscopic procedures are performed on an outpatient basis (discharge home same day or overnight observation). The advantages of laparoscopic surgery are minimal to no scarring, minimal pain, quick recovery, and minimal downtime.

Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TLH)

Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy involves removing the uterus and cervix using a laparoscope (camera). Your ovaries are left intact without altering your hormone which means menopause will happen naturally. Unless the hysterectomy was performed for cancer indication, you no longer need to undergo an annual pap smear. Patients are typically discharged same day. Patients love the quick recovery and return to normal activity compared to the traditional (open) hysterectomy.

Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy (LSH)

This procedure involves removal of the uterus without your cervix or ovaries. Women are required to have annual pap smear screening since cervix is still present and can cause cervical cancer.

Laparoscopic Myomectomy

This procedure is done to remove fibroid(s) and your uterus is intact after surgery. A myomectomy preserves fertility for women who desire that option and cesarean birth is recommended should you conceive after this procedure.

Laparoscopic Oophorectomy

Laparoscopic oophorectomy involves the removal of one or both ovary and affects your hormone production. Surgical menopause occurs when both ovaries are removed and you may need hormonal replacement therapy.

Laparoscopic Cystectomy

Laparoscopic cystectomy is the removal of a cyst or mass on the ovary while preserving portion of the ovary. This is important for reproductive age women to preserve fertility. It is relatively safe and quick procedure requiring minimal downtime.

Laparoscopic Salpingectomy

Laparoscopic salpingectomy is the removal of fallopian tube which is commonly performed as treatment for ectopic pregnancy or during hysterectomy. Salpingostomy is a conservative alternative done to remove the ectopic pregnancy or insult to the fallopian tube while preserving the fallopian tube.

Laparoscopic Adnexal Surgery

This terminology refers to any surgery performed on fallopian tube(s) or ovaries.
